I have a keen interest in weather and climate and started my career in 1998 as an operational weather forecaster at the South African Weather Service (SAWS). Initially based in Pretoria, I enjoyed compiling various forecast products for the general public, farmers, power utilities, maritime and aviation industries. When the Aviation Forecasting Centre moved to O.R. Tambo International Airport (Kempton Park), I decided to focus more on aviation forecasting due to the greater challenges involved in such forecasts. In 2005 I moved to the Bloemfontein Campus of the University of the Free State (UFS) to become a lecturer in Agricultural Meteorology. This afforded me the opportunity to do my MSc and PhD while taking on an enormous teaching load. I was also instrumental in developing numerous modules and programme restructuring, and eventually became the subject head of Agrometeorology. I consider myself to be a good lecturer with an ability to convey information in an understandable manner. Although teaching takes up the bulk of my time, postgraduate supervision and research is increasingly becoming important to me. My research focuses primarily on various impacts of climate variability and change in agriculture.
