Currently I work on a IPI research project (2011-2013) aiming to assess the impact of emergent diseases (the Varroa associated Deformed wing virus (DWV), and the Microsporidian Nosema ceranae) on the flight performance and orientation ability of honeybees and bumblebees and its consequences for bee populations employing a range of modern techniques including harmonic radar tracking. This elegantly fuses behavioural ecology and pathology of bees into a fascinating and ecologically and economically highly relevant project.
