My research focuses on the conservation of endemic animals and the restoration of native ecosystems. I am particularly interested in the study of predator-prey and host-parasitoid relationships in managed and unmanaged ecosystems, the use of environmental DNA and the development of non-invasive DNA sampling for biodiversity monitoring and species discovery. I use high-throughput DNA sequencing on a variety of platforms. I teach Conservation Science, Molecular genetics, and Animal Behaviour. I am also the editor in chief of the journal Rethinking Ecology.

My main research projects (0.90 FTE) focus on food-web ecology in invertebrates communities, the ecology of New Zealand endemic earthworms, the restoration of mining areas, the conservation of Powelliphanta snails, the use of environmental metabarcoding for biodiversity assessments and diet analyses, and the development of non-invasive DNA sampling methods.My main teaching activities (0.10 FTE) focus on biodiversity, restoration ecology, the conservation of endangered species and molecular ecology.
