I am a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in phage biology, with over 5 years of experience in phage isolation, characterisation, maintenance, and storage, and a passion for translational research.While completing my Honours and Ph.D. at La Trobe University, I isolated novel phages against antibiotic-resistant pathogens that are of significant concern within the veterinary and human medical sectors. Through extensive laboratory and genomic characterisation, I identified phages and phage lytic enzymes (endolysins), that showed potential as therapeutic options against antiboitic-resistant pathogens. Work from my Ph.D. was communicated at several academic conferences, in blogs, podcasts, radio segments, and on social media. Throughout my Ph.D. I was awarded >$20,000 in grant funding through Research Foundations and Institutes, which involved writing grant reports and maintaining stakeholder engagement.Throughout my Ph.D., I volunteered with Phage Directory in which I assisted with writing blurbs and articles for their weekly blog 'Capsid & Tail. In this role I also assisted co-founder Jessica Sacher, with the development and execution of PHAVES (Phage Directory Virtual Event Series), a monthly seminar series for all phage enthusiasts around the world, from researchers to biotech companies to clinicians. This role allowed me to meet many phage researchers around the world, improve my science blog writing and develop project planning, communication and seminar charing skills.I also volunteered as a mentor through In2science, where I would meet weekly with a high school student and talk about all things science, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of STEM. This experience was highly rewarding as it gave me the opportunity to empower future Women in STEM and improve my science communication skills.I am dedicated to clinical and translational research and the science communication that comes along with such work.
