I have been a software developer for almost 20 years. I really enjoy the process of software development, as it seems like solving or troubleshooting various logic problems, which is usually challenging and rearding. I spent over ten years of my career with MentorNet, a nonprofit e-mentoring organization for underrepresented minorities pursuing degrees in science, engineering, and math. I was the sole developer from the very beginning, and I built all of the back-end and front-end systems at MentorNet, which included a full scale online mentoring program, matching algorithm, staff intranet, and many other complex automated systems to allow MentorNet to scale its program to match over 20,000 mentors and students. In the process I honed my skills in ASP.NET, SQL, and other facets of programming web applications. For the past four years I have been working for a small IT consulting company where I work on a contract for the U.S. Coast Guard as the lead developer for a web application that manages all aspects of their ship repairs both here and abroad. I work directly with the project manager on new features, enhancements, and maintenance. We initially migrated the old ASP legacy application over to ASP.NET (C#) and SQL Server, and then more recently I taught myself Microsoft’s Entity Framework and LINQ, and converted our framework over to this newer framework, which has proven to be much more efficient. I collaborate with another developer on this project which makes the development process more enjoyable and productive.Over the course of my career I have taught myself many new technologies and successfully implemented them efficiently. Although most of my programming experience has been in Microsoft technologies and .NET, I have a proven record of being able to pick up new languages quickly. I am always eager to jump in and start working on technologies where I am lacking.
