Stephanie Nealer Email and Phone Number
My 3 decades of work first as a local radio reporter and then as correspondent, editor and documentary writer for the Voice of America took me around the United States and throughout East and Southeast Asia. I covered the first democratic elections in Mongolia, violent protests in South Korea, and the aftermath of the Tiananmen Square crackdown in Beijing, China. Seeing peoples' struggles for progress and justice was exhilarating and sometimes dangerous. I changed gears when I joined Adventure Theatre - helping to raise over $1 million in a capital campaign to renovate the historic children's theater in Maryland. I became AT's Development Director and then served on the Board of Directors during a period when the theater was expanding in size and programming. In retirement, I spent several years using my broadcasting skills to narrate and record audio books (both academic books and literature) for Learning Ally, which serves children with visual and learning difficulties. My work with the giving circle Many Hands has opened my eyes to the very serious needs of under-served women and families in the DC metro area and the wonderful work of the non-profit organizations that receive our collective grants. I serve on committees to evaluate grant applications, and I provide content about our grantees on Many Hands’ social media sites.
