Lead an affinity group of 13 states that aims to reduce caries and improve oral health in children who use Medicaid and CHIP. • Oversee internal project management for contracts, manage contractual risks, monitor finances, and manage the project’s schedule and work breakdown structure. • Perform complex analyses of projects to monitor and evaluate project performance and progress, including monitoring project costs, assessing earned value, and overseeing subcontractors.• Serve as a liaison among technical project staff, researchers, internal business departments, external consultants, subcontractors, and client representatives.• Supervise others working on systems and technical assistance projects, and monitors the quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness of their work.

The goal of the HPRCD is to measurably decrease cardiovascular risk factors by identifying needs, providing technical assistance, and implementing and studying evidence-based practices that address two of the CDC’s primary “Winnable Battles”: Obesity and Tobacco Use. Among our many partners include mental health provider organizations, primary care provider networks, state agencies, and community organizations. We have a special focus on high-risk populations with obesity and/or tobacco dependence receiving care in community mental health centers and in primary health care settings. Our activities also include mentoring early research career investigators, piloting health promotion coaching and mobile health interventions, and a study on implementation of integrated health promotion in mental health organizations across the nation.

During the first year of my fellowship, I worked for the Oral Health Program, Division of Public Health, New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services. I worked on and provided technical support for two statewide surveys. The Third Grade Healthy Smiles – Healthy Growth Survey collected oral health indicators and height/weight measurements on over 3,000 third grade students. The Senior Oral Health Survey collected oral health indicators on 610 adults aged 60 years and older. I worked with the Chronic Disease Epidemiologist on analyzing data and was a lead author for both final written reports. My second year assignment involved working on Diabetes Prevention and Control activities within the CDC State Public Health Actions "1305" grant. My major activities included: partnering with organizations to increase referrals to Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs (DSME) and National Diabetes Prevention Programs (NDPP), working on a statewide needs assessment for diabetes educators, and conducting an environmental scan to create a payor matrix of health insurance providers who reimburse for DSME and NDPP.
