Trading as Athene Consulting, I am a specialist in ESG and business sustainability. I’m here to help businesses make better choices, do the right thing, and actually be more sustainable. Well, apart from my abiding love for little owls (Athene noctua), Athene is the Greek goddess associated with wisdom and strategy. And sustainability really should be strategic for your business. Still today, we see examples of sustainability strategies which are simply branding or box-ticking exercises, but real enterprise value is only created when your approach to people and planet is fully aligned with your business drivers.My approach is to work with your executive team to establish:Where your ESG ‘pain points’ lieWhat your sustainability strategy should containWhere your quick wins can be foundHow to communicate and avoid accusations of greenwash I can support in the following ways.-Development / review of your sustainability / ESG strategy, or sub-strategies, such as those for nature or climate. I can be ‘hands-off’, acting as a critical friend to your internal team, or offer a full development service.-Acting as a ‘fractional CSO’ to your board. If your business doesn’t yet need a full-time board member with ESG expertise, I can provide ad-hoc advice to your C-suite on complex ESG issues.-Supporting recruitment into your sustainability function. It can be hard to differentiate between candidates when recruiting a CSO / Head of ESG if there is currently no such expertise in the business. I can support your team in reviewing technical skills and business fit.-Speaking, training, upskilling and delivering workshops on various aspects of sustainability and ESG. (I get particularly excited about nature).
