My career has focused on state level education policy and school finance issues in California. During the last decade I have specialized in issues relating to innovative uses of network enabled technologies in teaching/learning. I have experience in all four segments of education in the state (K12, the University of California, the California Community College system and the CSU system) which supports my goal of gaining as many insights as possible into the complex nature of education in order to help inform my work. During the past three years, my career has focused on ways to advance science, technology, engineering and mathematics education in California and across the nation. The recent creation of the California STEM Learning Network and the Gateways East Bay Regional STEM Network, and the promise they hold for advancing STEM learning opportunities for all students is one of the most exciting developments that I've seen in a long time.
