About Stephanie Geertman
Experienced researcher and coach working with individuals and organizations world-wide to co-create healthy, sustainable lives and environments. I use (participatory action) research as a tool for better understanding how to support the transition to sustainable healthy cities, communities, and regions supporting people’s well-being (mental and physical health), that provide access to opportunities to all citizens (equity) and are considerate and in balance within the use of earths' resources. I use community engagement and co-design to increase diversity, inclusivity and equity by empowering stakeholder that are otherwise less heard in transition processes. I use systemic transition coaching as a tool to guide individuals and organizations towards increased health and sustainable ways of being. Since 2017 I am based in Utrecht, the Netherlands, prior to that I largely worked and lived internationally, of which 15 years in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Postdoctoral Researcher: The Meaning Of Socio-Spatial Practices Of Urban Youth In Vietnam
This post doctoral position at the Center for Urbanisation, Culture & Society, was part of a partnership research which brought together Canadian and Vietnamese researchers and NGOs to examine the provision and use of public spaces in Hanoi. Our focus was on youth a transitional segment of the Vietnamese urban population whose socio-spatial practices received scarce research and policy attention. In exploring this group’s “onstage” (formal) and “backstage” (informal) uses of public spaces, this study uncovered processes of youth identity formation in a rapidly urbanizing Asian context. It also sheded light on the means through which teenagers, standing between older socialist ideals and emerging middle-class aspirations, attempted to carve a space for themselves during Vietnam’s urban and market transitions.http://www.labovespa.ca/en/research-projects/ongoing-projects-88/urbanisation-and-insecurity-218/youth-friendly-public-spaces-in-a
