The Legislative Liaison is responsible for representing the Unemployment Insurance Agency on legislative matters before the state legislature, the Governor’s Office, and staff or officials of state departments or other agencies and organizations. This includes the handling of legislative policy development, communications and strategy; advocacy on issues impacting unemployment statewide; and, strategic engagement with state legislative policy groups and stakeholders. Advise the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity on the impact of legislation being considered by the legislature and provide strategic and analytical support on issues affecting the Agency and unemployment as a whole.

I develop the State Federation's Legislative Advocacy Plan and coordinate lobbying and legislative advocacy programming/products that build power to the labor movement in Lansing.The Michigan State AFL-CIO is the state federation of labor, representing over 1,000,000 active and retired members of 59 unions throughout the state. Our mission is to improve the lives of working families—to bring economic justice to the workplace, and social justice to our state and the nation.

Regional Field Director for a top-tier congressional race. I work closely with other senior staff, and serve as a point of contact on the ground, and am responsible for directing the day to day field operations for the congressional campaign. Responsible for planning and executing the campaign field plan, managing three field staff and twenty interns, and accountable for all quantitative and qualitative field metrics.

 Lead the development of Rep. Driskell’s 2015/16 legislative agenda and action plan. Worked with the representative, bill drafters, state departments, and stakeholder groups to develop legislation on a one-on-one basis and also through a series of roundtables. Research, track, and suggest changes to legislation, prepare briefing materials for all committees and House session.  Met with lobbyists and citizens to discuss important bills still in the development stages.  Write and edit regular e-newsletters, press releases, and op-eds; write talking points and speeches.

Managed a top-targeted State Senate race that achieved national attention. I directed all major operations of the campaign including fundraising, volunteer recruitment and supervision, strategy formulation, media relations, and messaging tactics.

I work directly with the Senators to maximize the impact of their communications efforts. I coordinate town hall meetings, organizing Task Force hearings and other community events. I formulate research projects and execute constituent outreach plans.

Organized and rebranded our annual fundraiser, Great Lakes Awards Celebration. I used proven fundraising tactics along with innovative new ideas to net our organization over $17,000.Developed implementation and execution strategy for the Built by Michigan campaign that works to bring together business, workers, electric vehicle owners, environmental organizations, and local government to develop and disseminate best practices for electric vehicle integration and adoption at the municipal level.

Designed charts and graphs for the newly collected data that was then presented in the 2012 78-page Sustainability is Central report.
