My academic journey started at a two-year community college. As a first-generation college graduate in STEM, navigating higher education would not have been possible without the support and encouragement from my mentors. My personal experience inspired me to enter higher education at both two- and four-year institutions as professional faculty. I’ve had the privilege to work with diverse and historically underrepresented groups of students as they navigate undergraduate research opportunities—a powerful and proven tool to increase student retention, engagement, and sense of belonging.My inspiration these days comes from the students with whom I interact. They remind me of myself and then teach me so much more about the current challenges and experiences they are going through. My ability to listen tentatively, provide options, careful planning of potential outcomes, and unwavering support, no matter their decisions, allow for students to share about what they need to be successful. I look forward to connecting with you to learn how we can work together to support students across all disciplines and demographics reach graduation and achieve the next step in their careers.
