The mission of Amos Natural Science Education Services (ANSES - www.ansesvt.com) is to promote greater wonder and appreciation of the natural world.Naturalist, author, teacher, former zoo and museum curator - Steve Amos has over 30 years of related professional experience, traveling extensively in pursuit of his passion for interpreting nature. He has presented hundreds of engaging nature-related programs to both young people and adults, complete with visuals, hands-on activities, and live animals. Steve has traveled 40+ times to over a dozen countries in the American tropics and Iceland to perform field research and animal collecting, and to lead student and adult educational science and culture excursions.

There are 17 organized towns within Caledonia County, VT. Since his initial participation in 1999, Steve has been elected to serve as Vice Chair and is now Chair of the County Committee. From a 100% "red" county in 2000, Caledonia County now has 8 "blue" elected officials out of 12 to the state legislature. In 2012, Steve was elected by members of the Vermont Democratic Party to serve as Alternate Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC.Steve ran an unsuccessful campaign for VT State Senator from the Caledonia/Orange District in 2012, coming in third out of four candidates in a two-seat district.

Since he was elected in 2009, Steve has rotated annually between the positions of Chair and Vice-Chair of the Wheelock Town Selectboard. Recent activities include the successful application for a $175K Class 2 road improvement grant from the Federal Department of Transportation and 3 successful grants for Class 3 ditch and culvert improvements from the VT DOT. He is currently leading an effort to pursue the design and construction a new Town Clerk's building and Town Garage, with a bond vote set for Spring/Summer 2013..In addition to his Selectboard responsibilities, Steve is an elected Justice of the Peace from Wheelock, and sits on the Town's Board of Civil Authority.

In 1996, Steve was an American Association of Museums' International Partnerships Among Museums (IPAM) selection to the Patagonian city of San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, where he performed research on the diversity and habits of temperate climate avifauna and mentored a regional museum, Museo de la Patagonia, on wildlife exhibition techniques. Steve also presented several papers at the New England Museum Association on collections conservation techniques, and was a Mentor in Collections Conservation to other institutional members of the Vermont Museum and Gallery Alliance.Besides his duties as Curator of Collections, Steve also was the first Marketing and Development Director for the Fairbanks Museum, and served as the Museum's principal Educator in Natural Sciences to contracted regional schools.
