Technical Manager

Horndean, Po8 9Ju

Provide technical support to the design, bid and manufacturing teams. When I started my role as Composite Technical Manager at Formaplex, my first main task was to develop the structure within the department and update the Quality Management System (QMS) to become AS9100 registered during an audit, to be undertaken within months of my start date. We completed the audit and became AS9100 Revision C registered and successfully retained registration in 2016. At Formaplex I sourced quotations for modifications to equipment to improve capability and align to customer requirements. As part of an upgrade to our autoclaves, I worked with our supplier’s software developers to introduce an innovative cure ‘auto-check’ facility. This software checks cure parameters against customer specification or material technical datasheet and provides a green or red flag during and at the end of the cure. This has enabled cure failures to be identified during, or straight after, cure, whereas this was previously manually checked during final inspection when the component is at its highest value. I’m not aware of another company with this cure auto-check facility.I also lead the introduction of an MRP system into the composites department. I established the structure of the MRP system to satisfy the requirements of AS9100 Rev C and customer specification/expectation.Composite technical authority for projects in aerospace, automotive, motorsport and defence. Projects included CTAL engine liners, Jaguar Project 7, NIMR, Williams F1 and Collet Marine.
