Debbie's brilliant idea of supplying a gift box to military personnel serving overseas on Christmas Day resulted in the first Christmas Box in 90 years. Neither of the Briggs' were aware of the 1914 box until after they got the go-ahead from a very perceptive Brigadier Little who had championed the idea right through to getting Cabinet approval.The first year, 2004,was 90% financed by the Briggs's, it proved so successful that they were asked by the MoD to ensure the project continued to bring goodwill and boost the morale of the service personnel serving overseas on Christmas day on OUR behalf separated from their families and loved ones.They were asked to form a charity to ensure they were reimbursed for the 2004 box and to continue the good work. Unfortunately, to date, they have not been paid the £200k+ it and were pronised many times in writing.They financed the 2005 box whilst the charity was being set up and funds were eventually available some 15 months later. In recognition of the 1914 box a replica was included in the 2005 box.The 2008 box and subsequent boxes have been the responsibility of a very large MoD contractor but the Briggs remain extremely proud of their being the originators and their subsequent involvement supplying the 2006 and 2007 boxes and are pleased to see the charity become financially independent.
