Specialties: Extensive formal training economics: concentrations in non-renewable resources and financial economics, along with a good deal of econometrics.Expertise in the economics of commodity storage and calendar spread analysis.My experience as a gas and power analyst has naturally led to deeper exposure to related energy commodities, primarily coal, and to a lesser extent oil, natural gas liquids, and liquefied natural gas markets which in their turn have led me to tangentially contemplate foreign energy markets as well. Though not to mislead - my expertise is in North American energy markets.I started my career as a quantitative analyst, primarily engaged in valuing projects with substantial levels of embedded optionality. The project valuation work led to ever deeper explorations of the underlying market fundamentals impacting the valuation framework, model calibration, and ultimately the overall valuation. In 2006 I made the move into the market analysis team where I could explore the market fundamentals full time. These markets continue to fascinate me and have held my attention ever since.My current role has me supporting our northeast electricity trading bench. I work closely with the gas analysts as much of my work is highly relevant to both markets. I consider myself a gas analyst who spends an enormous amount of time thinking about the demand side of the natural gas market in the form of the electric generation sector. The interplay between natural gas and coal within the generation sector has naturally been a central feature of my work in recent years. The impacts of the EPA rulings on Mercury emissions is also presenting a rich set of questions to ponder.
