As an Events Manager, i work in an extremely busy environment requiring high levels of competence in prioritising, coordinating, communicating and decision-making. My role as an the Arena Events Manager requires me to be responsible for the operational management of the University Arena and Indoor Sports Facilities Events and Conferencing provision. My role requires me to carry out a wide range of tasks such as:1. To manage the operational and logistical requirements of events and conferences at the University Arena and Indoor Sports Facilities. Oversee all events at the Arena which has a 70000+ throughput per year. 2. To lead, manage, recruit and coordinate event services staff ensuring the effectual and proficient use of resources available in order to deliver a high quality, customer orientated service. Including ensuring all staff are adequately trained in accordance with sector specific standards.3. To accurately project budget costs of conferences and events and then manage the costs against a budget. 4. Research and identify opportunities for further income generation through sponsorship of events and negotiate with potential organisations rates of hire5. Be available as a first point of contact with members of the public, staff, students, sporting bodies and other external organisations in relation to events. Provide advice and recommendations the events available and planned.6. Analyse the income generated through events, evaluating cost effectiveness. Report findings and make recommendations for future events.7. To maintain awareness of the strategic aims of both the University of Worcester and the Institute of sport and Exercise Science, particularly in relation to its reputation for excellent inclusive education and sporting events through collaboration and joint working with a range of partners and stakeholders.

During my time as a Worcester City Council Sports Development Officer, I was regularly tasked with managing large scale sporting and community events across Worcester. My role required me to cover all aspects of event management including: seeking funding to set up the event, booking venues and employing members of staff, having health and safety arrangements in place to control risks, ensuring the competence of staff to undertake their role, handling payments for both participants and any entertainment booked, and writing risk assessments and contingency plans to ensure a safe and successful event.

During my time as a Community Development Officer, I was part of a team that was tasked with the reconstruction of several organisations. This work led to the amalgamation of Worcester Community Trust. I made extensive use of Microsoft Office applications i.e. Word, PowerPoint and Excel as a tool in my research that included reviewing personnel and financial databases. I interviewed staff to identify performance improvement suggestions and contributed to project group meetings. This work helped inform organisational change as follows; introducing new management and supervision duties, adopting a more robust charging strategy for partner organisations, and improvements to marketing.
