I have been in positions of leadership since I was promoted to store manager at eighteen. Leadership is about your ability to understand and interact with people. Almost 17 years in law enforcement running an animal shelter where I developed a very active volunteer and social media presence has taught me a lot about understanding and interacting with people. A successful leader is approachable, trusts in the skills of the team and knows how to resolve problems. While running the animal shelter I implemented solutions, when there weren’t enough funds I wrote and received grants and negotiated with local businesses to stay in budget. I built a volunteer program and internship training method to train others to succeed while filling my staffing needs. I have had people quit jobs so that they could spend more time volunteering because I work hard to create a work environment where people feel appreciated and valuable. The work environment is set from the top and that is where you need a leader not just a boss. Employees that feel valued will work harder and do the job better, they will take care of the customer and be more reliable, I have proven this many times. The best leaders don’t need a job title to make people follow them, and I am someone people want to follow. When I have not been in charge by job title, I still lead, I earn respect beyond the title, I am competent and efficient, and I naturally teach and help others to grow. I have served on state level boards, volunteered a lot and helped the communities where I live because what you reflects on you. I learn and adapt quickly to improve everything I touch. I actively seek knowledge and constantly work to improve, I enjoy learning and using those skills. I have worked in food service, retail, marketing, consulting, government and non-profit, I have developed skills ranging from construction to computer repair and IT, I have crewed an ambulance and done janitorial, law enforcement and customer service, I have a wide range of skills and a strong ability to carry skills into new areas. I can make improvements based on experience and knowledge few others might have. I have always absorbed skills and naturally advance in what ever field I have been in, that is why I can say from my experience I will learn and excel in any field I may move into. When I ran my restaurant, I tripled sales, when I was consulting clients had up to 95% increases in sales by using the tools I developed for them, when I ran the animal shelter I had a 500% growth and increased successful outcomes from 15% to 90%.
