Stephen received a full scholarship in his senior year at Howard University and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from this school. Recently, Stephen was the Co-Producer, Director, and Set Designer for Ronald “Smokey” Stevens’ critically acclaimed hit “I just want to tell somebody.” This Off Broadway show ran from January 6th to February 6th, 2022 at the historic The Theater for the New City in Manhattan, New York. The show won the 2022 Audelco Award for “Best Solo Performance.” A return engagement was done at The Theater for the New City in June 2023 for three weeks. Other venues are in the works for 2024 as well!!! Stephen has written 20 play scripts and had 18 of them produced for the stage. His goal has always been to take the “theatre experience” to audiences outside of traditional entertainment venues. His plays have been performed numerous times in prisons, half-way houses, nursing homes, drug rehabilitation centers, shelters for battered women, and shelters for the homeless. Stephen's theatre training includes acting under the renowned James W. Butcher, Glenda Dickerson, Frank Staroba, and Linda Gravatt; directing under the legendary Vera J. Katz and Davie Marlin-Jones; set design under St. Clair Christmas; stagecraft under Ron Truit, and playwriting under Clay Goss. Accomplishments in the area of dramatic arts include acting in numerous theatrical productions. Examples: had the lead role in the Emmy award winning NBC television production of Bill Gunn’s “Johnnas.” He played Moses in a touring production of “God’s Trombones,” the King in a Folger Shakespeare educational division production of “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” the Porter and Doctor in a Howard University/PBS production of “Macbeth,” and Willie B. Brayboy in a touring production of Ted Shine’s “Mrs. Patterson.”
