Corporation of Lloyd’s 1970-86, holding a number of senior positions: Assistant to Lloyd’s first Chief Executive, Ian Hay Davison. Manager of the Legislation Department. Led the staff team dealing with the Financial Services Act and Sir Patrick Neill’s Report the “Regulatory Arrangements at Lloyd’s”.January 1987: Joined a leading Lloyd’s Underwriting Agency the Merrett Group, MD of the Managing Agency Companies, as well as serving on the boards of the Group’s loss adjusting and other service company operations. In 1994 left the Lloyd’s Market to become COO of Zurich Reinsurance (London) Limited. Along with other members of the Senior Management Team at Zurich Re, left at the end of 1998 following a proposed management buyout which was aborted after Zurich decided not to sell the business. January 1999: Together with three colleagues, was recruited by leading US buyout specialists, Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts, (“KKR”) to join the Alea Group (formerly Rhine Re) - CEO, Alea London and an EVP of Alea Group until March 2006. Joined Asta (formerly Whittington) in January 2007. CEO of Asta until 2014 and Executive Director on the Board of Asta Capital. Retired December 2016. Currently Non- Executive Chairman of AXIS Managing Agency; Chairman, AXIS Re SE; and Non-Executive Director AXIS Specialty Europe SE. Other: Chairman of the International Underwriting Association (IUA) (2001 – 2004) which represents companies writing business in the London market and includes amongst its membership leading UK and Continental European insurers and reinsurers as well as many international companies including many from the US. Prior to taking up the Chairmanship, chaired the IUA’s Representation & Legislation Committee and the North American Committee. Was a member of the London Market’s Market Reform Group (MRG).
