Acquisitions Editor for the Marine Corps University Press and Marine Corps University Journal. Dr. Evans came to MCU Press in 2010 after retiring at the rank of Colonel from the Marine Corps Reserves, with 32 years of service (evenly divided between active and reserve duty). He served with all three Marine Expeditionary Forces and also saw duty with Marine Forces Atlantic, Marine Forces Europe, and United States Forces Korea. His active duty in the National Capital Region includes extended tours with the College of Continuing Education, Marine Corps War College, and Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory at Quantico, and duty with the Office of the Secretary of Defense during the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process. Final set of military orders—mobilized retired-recall orders—were at the History Division, Marine Corps University.Received a Doctorate in History from Temple University, and a Master of Arts (Social Studies-History) and Bachelor of Science in Education (Social Studies-Geography) from West Chester University.Most recent book is U.S. Marines and Irregular Warfare, 1898-2007: Anthology and Selected Bibliography (Marine Corps University Press, 2008). Other scholarly works include The Lords of Battle: Image and Reality of the Comitatus in Dark-Age Britain (Boydell and Brewer, 1997); The Heroic Poetry of Dark-Age Britain: An Introduction to Its Dating, Composition, and Use as a Historical Source (University Press of America, 1997); and “The Dating of Beowulf,” in Classical and Medieval Literature Criticism Volume 43, edited by Elizabeth Gellert and Jelena O. Krstocic (Gale Research, 2001). He is nearing completion of a book entitled Hearth and Home: An Introduction to Britain’s Dark-Age Halls.Dr. Evans is a member of two professional organizations: the International Arctic Social Sciences Association, and the Medieval Academy of America.
