Led team of IT, Engineering, and contractor resources to implement wireless tank gauging in one plant that increased plant safety and saved $5M+ in engineering and installation costs.  Developed plan to replace existing CMMS. Marathon utilized a mainframe-based, thirty year old Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Developed proposal to evaluate all options for the future CMMS and reach conclusion on the best solution for Marathon Petroleum. Developed detailed plan, proposed team members, and presentation to upper management. The proposal was approved and the project was initiated.

Marathon had no effective method to gather information from the 50,000+ instruments used in each of its seven refineries. Implemented engineering design application able to electronically transfer instrument data. Improved mechanical integrity compliance and reduced engineering costs by 15%.

    Coordinated $15M budget and led team of ten IT and contractor personnel to implement reliability analysis and mechanical integrity tracking application. Directed application development and integration of new system with existing CMMS.  Implemented cost-saving application. Maintenance data was not centralized and Marathon had no tools to analyze equipment reliability. Implemented Meridium application at seven refineries to centralize data and improve failure prediction. Reduced maintenance costs/lost opportunities, saving $75M over four years. Revolutionized mechanical integrity program. Mechanical integrity program was paper based, inefficient, and compliance focused but difficult to manage. Implemented Meridium MI application suite at seven refineries to improve program management by focusing on risk reduction and inspection optimization. Reduced maintenance costs, improved turnaround scoping, and reduced fixed equipment lost opportunities by $35 million over five years. Led to OSHAA labeling this program as "the Gold Standard" for mechanical integrity compliance

Marathon’s mainframe-based CMMS program was outdated and difficult to use. Led development team that redesigned system into PC-based client server environment. Extended system life 15 years, saving $20-$50M in software/system implementation costs. Implemented CMMS Program at newly purchased refinery. Marathon acquired a refinery in Indianapolis, IN. Led the effort to implement the CMMS application including transition from old system to new, budgeting, planning, and training. The result was dramatically lower inventory values (by $2 million) and more efficient scheduling of resources.  Implemented CMMS program for subsidiary company. Marathon’s service station subsidiary had no system-wide inventory management system for its 5,000 locations. Designed inventory/maintenance management solution within CMMS application, coordinated project team of developers and business analysts, developed plans, schedules, and budgets. The improved accuracy allowed an inventory reduction of $5M+ in less than two years.
