CHIVA Africa is a UK and South African based charity/NGO focused on improving the quality of health services provided to children and adolescents living with HIV in South Africa. In 2015, I was recruited as the first CEO in order to support the development of the organisation. During the past three years successes have included:- Working with the Country Director of CHIVA South Africa to restructure the programme and South African based team, trebling the size and reach of the programme within one year, while keeping costs at the same level.- Implementing new finance and governance structure and processes in both the UK and South Africa, including developing and reporting to a Board of Trustees in both countries. - Supporting the SA team in the development of new programme and funding partnerships.- Transforming the communications and messaging in order to be more proactive and externally focused- Successfully securing new grant funding partnerships, as well as securing long-term income to cover core costs.

Riders for Health is an international NGO and social enterprise working to improve the capacity and efficiency of health care delivery in Africa. I was recruited in 2012 as the first Director of Fundraising and Communications and was tasked with developing both fundraising and communications with the aim of diversifying and growing income generation, as well as raising the profile of the organisation. Successes during my tenuire included:- Developing and leading a high-performing team of eight covering fundraising, events, digital, social media, communications and advocacy.- Securing more than £1m in multi-year grant funding in my first year. Income from grants increased by 60% from 2011 to 2013, the majority from new funders.- Winning UKAid match funding (DFID - UK Government) on two occasions, both campaigns raised more than £600,000. - Successfully winning The Times Christmas Appeal for an unprecedented second occasion (Riders had previously partnered with The Times in 2007).- Managing two events hosted by HRH Princess Royal, the second at Buckingham Palace.- Overseeing the re-design of Riders’ website and development of Riders’ branding.- Beyond my specific role in leading income generation and communications I also played an important role on the senior leadership team in developing the strategy and overall management of the organisation.

Practical Action is an international development charity which uses sustainable technology to challenge poverty and improve the lives of people worldwide. My role within the organisation was to lead the fundraising team. This included:- Managing a team of 15 fundraisers to deliver consistently to target over two and half year period raising over £9m each year.- Leading the organisation’s work in developing the Five Year Group Funding Strategy 2012-17 alongside the senior leadership team and Board of Trustees.- Succesfully developing a business development/innovation role within the fundraising which led to the development of successful fundraising initiatives within the two years – raising in excess of £100,000.- Creating and launching the Chair’s Circle, a high level membership scheme, which grew to attract over 30 active members.
