I have been fortunate to work in the public sector for the majority of my career, taking the opportunities provided to experience roles in response policing, custody, hate crime, harm reduction, alcohol licensing and latterly dealing with vulnerable adults in the community. In all of the roles I undertook it became clear that every position was made easier through effective partnership working, benefiting both the service users and the organisations involved. In my role as alcohol licensing officer (2015-2021) I relied on partnership relations with individual managers/owners, area managers, licensing authorities, voluntary service providers to improve the safety of everyone using the night time economy in Cheltenham. I was part of the working group which through Cheltenham Borough Council’s lead was successful in the town gaining the Purple Flag accreditation which recognises excellence in managing the evening and night time economy.Now that I have retired from the police I’m looking forward to finding other challenges that benefits all those who participate in it.
