Stephen will work with Technology’s partners across ICG, PBWM, Finance and Risk on the flows of data into the Finance and Risk applications, as the bank's experts collectively agree and design augmented data controls that will be implemented through the bank’s business processes and technical data flows. Stephen will also map out and understand how data flows through and across the Finance and Risk applications, in order to inform the definition of an architecture and approach to streamlining the front to back data flows, and to find ways of making the extremely rich data produced across the back office functions more readily available for analysis and decision-making across Finance, Risk and front office business teams.

Stephen partnered with Morgan Stanley's Business Unit Risk Managers across Equities, Fixed Income, Global Capital Management, Research, and Investment Management to design and architect first line controls for employee conduct and other supervisory risk monitoring activities and functions. Stephen advanced the Supervisory application architecture and capability.

Stephen is primarily responsible for Morgan Stanley's Finance Data Warehouse as a data and systems architect. Stephen has held many technology architecture, management and development roles throughout his career at Morgan Stanley. Stephen successfully implemented a multi-year plan creating a new data management ecosystem that brought simplification and stability to the Finance data architecture and its business intelligence applications. The renovation project brought stability, performance and scalability to over 3,000 financial controllers throughout the globe responsible for the daily accounting of all securities and regulatory processing for the Federal Reserve and the Securities and Exchange Commission.The enterprise data architecture Stephen devised created high standards for the data model, data sourcing (ETL), performance and tuning, capacity planning and quality assurance. The enterprise data warehouse continues to be the centerpiece of the bank’s current financial reporting strategy as it provides a stable and scalable architecture that will be the single consistent data source for financial reporting. The data warehouse has reduced capital costs and operational risks. Today, Stephen continues to focus on the core Finance Technology Architecture in order to evolve the data ecosystem that will be the foundation underlying all future Finance data, analytics and reporting requirements. This architecture will set the guiding principles for the data ecosystem covering core components such as data management, data modeling principles, reference data, metadata management, data replication, integration of renovated and non renovated data sources, data access layers, security and entitlements and the archiving and data retention policy (ILM).
