Born in Hong Kong, Stephen Lam has been described as “undoubtedly a man of passion who lives for the music…” (Adam Rozlach, Polish Radio), and is recognised as one of the most outstanding young conductors in the recent years. Highly commended by Zubin Mehta, Lam is currently the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Ponte Orchestra and Singers, one of the most in-demand orchestras in Hong Kong in the field of choral and symphonic music, designated music director and principal conductor of Zhu Hai Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the Associate Conductor of the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra.Lam has worked with orchestras around the world, including the King’s Philharmonic (London), St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic (Russia), Sichuan Chamber Philharmonic (China), Seoul Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra de Royal Opera de Liege-Wallonie (Belgium) and Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra (Poland). Lam has also received critical success as an operatic conductor, including “Die lustige Witwe” and “Cosi fan tutti” with Webern Symphony Orchestra in Vienna as well as “Carmen” with Musica Viva in Hong Kong.Lam is also a dedicated educator and ardent advocate of community outreach, and his collaboration with young musicians has been widely praised. He is also a regular guest professor and conductor in Sichuan Music Conservatory in China, and was a member of the jury at the 2018 Belt & Road World Choir Festival, Maribor European Grand Prix in Slovenia, and Czech Music Festival in Hradec Kralove. He is designated to be the chief artistic coordinator of the 1st World Choral Conducting Competition.
