My research aims to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning responses and resistance to anti-cancer therapeutics, particular radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I am also interested in identifying transcriptomic and proteomic signatures that are predictive of patient response to therapy. Furthermore, I have significant interest in the molecular and cellular biology, including immunology, behind malignant progression during the Barrett's metaplasia-dysplasia-adenocarcinoma sequence. Our cancer research is of a highly translational nature and involves close collaboration with scientist and clinician colleagues at Trinity College Dublin, St. James's Hospital, Dublin, and abroad. Other duties include: Teaching, PhD/MSc student supervison, mentorship, tutoring, acquisition of competitive grant funding, fostering industry links, participation on academic committees, curriculum development, financial and personnel management, outreach, PPI, among others. As a visiting postdoctoral fellow my research at the Laboratory of Experimental Immunology focussed on the cell signalling and anti-tumour activity of a newly-discovered interferon, IFN-lambda.
