Founder member of the AFRC's Digital Manufacturing Team and theme lead for Connectivity. The role involved raising awareness of the benefits of digital manufacturing technologies amongst Scottish manufacturing SMEs and supply chains, demonstrating available technologies and solutions, and providing links into appropriate support networks. Also a member of the project coordination committee for the EU-funded MIDIH (Manufacturing Industry Digital Innovation Hubs) initiative and served as the AFRC representative on the HVM Catapult Digital Manufacturing Forum.

Engaged on a series of externally funded knowledge transfer and economic development initiatives, including the ADS (Aerospace, Defence & Security) Programme, Venture Navigator (a web-based business support tool) and Encompass (a £1.9 million knowledge transfer and economic development initiative designed to increase engagement by Scottish companies in innovation). These roles involved stimulating, facilitating and managing a range of knowledge transfer projects, and working with support partners to develop funding proposals and business plans relevant to the needs of individual KT projects. I also worked with academics on the commercialisation of software through open innovation mechanisms such as Easy Access IP and Open Source Software (OSS) licensing.

The role involved; (i) the identification of opportunities for commercialisation of 3D-MATIC’s research output and assisting with the early stages of commercialisation, in collaboration with the University’s Research & Enterprise office, and (ii) the development of closer links with industry, forging of links with other developers and manufacturers of 3D imaging equipment and establishing effective relationships with business and support groups.I also served as a member of the Imaging Faraday Partnership management team, representing the interests of the University in IFP matters, liaising closely with the University’s industrial partners, Sira Ltd and TÜV Management & IT Consulting, and engaging in technology translation activities.
