UK & European Patent Attorney at top tier firm Potter Clarkson. With eight years’ experience in R&D in the photonics industry, I provide a unique blend of technical, legal and commercial insight to clients. I place great emphasis on getting to know a client’s business, products and commercial plans to determine a patent strategy that will best protect their core IP. I work with a number of investor clients performing due diligence on target investments, which further enhances my ability to advise tech clients on how best to narrate their IP Strategy for investor & DD readiness.I support a number of tech growth accelerators by providing IP mentorship and workshops to their cohorts of businesses.Current tech focus areas are semi, space, med devices, AI, and (of course) photonics. I have drafted an extensive number of UK and European patent applications. As a named inventor on multiple patents from my time in industry, I can develop a natural technical rapport with inventors and quickly discern the essence of an invention, explore alternative solutions and maximise the potential scope of protection available. I have drafted patent applications (including countless software applications) in a diverse range of fields including agricultural machinery, wireless communications, high-power electronics, semiconductor topography, medical devices, navigation, eye tracking, neurone simulation and energy storage. Beyond drafting, I have experience in all aspects of the patent lifecycle. I'll ensure that the scope of protection still aligns with the client’s commercial offering when prosecuting applications at the UK & European Patent Offices, and when instructing overseas attorneys on corresponding applications in other territories. I have successfully attacked and defended patent rights in post-grant opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office and worked with Potter Clarkson’s litigation team on a number of proceedings before the UK courts. Awarded the Moss Prize for obtaining the highest overall mark in the 2017 foundation level UK patent examination papers. Followed this with two further prizes in 2018 for Trade Mark and Design & Copyright exams.
