I started my working life as an apprentice blaster / sprayer applying a vast amount of different corrosion protection coatings including but not limited to a huge range of liquid coatings (airless and conventional spray), 100% volume solids materials (trowelled and hot spray applied with plural pump), various wrap systems, fireproofing (pfp and cementitious), and thermal spraying of both aluminium and zinc wire (gas mixture and arc).Having covered a vast range of various coatings and application methods I then made the decision to go down the coatings inspection route. To begin with, I was still working as an applicator in a supervisory position carrying out the inspection checks that were required by which ever client I was contracted to at any given time. As my career progressed I became rope access trained, obtained my NACE CIP Level 2, became an Icorr insulation inspector and an Icorr fireproofing inspector.For the last 4 years I have been a full time coatings / insulation inspector carrying out QC checks on a vast amount of liquid coatings, wrapping tapes (serviwrap and Stopaq), TSA (arc and gas mixture), PFP(chartec range) and a wide range of insulation materials including fibaroll/fibaclad cladding system. In the last 2 years in my time on the Total contract I have also been tasked with carrying out spot audits on the inspectors on the offshore installations tied to the contract to compare the work carried out by the contractor meets the specified requirements.
