I was responsible for bringing together Wandle’s communications and community investment functions to deliver a step-change in our reputation with residents, staff and stakeholders. In less than a year at Wandle, I set up a new team from scratch, and turned round both communications and community investment from failing services to among the most high-performing in the business. Leading a team of ten (with two direct reports) and a budget of over £2m I delivered lasting change in a short space of time. I established and recruited an in-house communications team, saving over £100,000pa. Specific improvements delivered include:• New intranet launched on time and on budget, with usage almost doubling;• Sector communications presence re-established, with our engagement in sector campaigns campaign generating positive coverage and feedback; • Social media presence has grown exponentially, with our Twitter impact increasing by over 400%. • Weekly staff e-newsletter launched, with 96% of staff finding it useful;• Improvements to our website have seen usage more than double, and our initial channel shift work has seen usage of our self-service portal more than triple. CI is central to Wandle’s vision: in less than a year I turned the vision into a reality, developing a Community Investment Plan that is being delivered and evaluated: • The Board’s flagship £3m environmental improvement programme, transforming communal areas, successfully taken to delivery stage;• Strong partnerships established, including procurements for four ambitious CI programmes.Other achievements:• Chaired the project team to manage the organisation’s response to an asset management challenge identified as Wandle’s biggest business risk;• Delivered an innovative staff engagement programme to launch our corporate plan (that I played a lead role in drafting);• A staff survey confirmed my team as the most engaged in the business, scoring above the company average in 53/58 questions.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, I managed the communications and governance functions for a successful inner-London Arms Length Management Organisation, which manages 22,000 properties on behalf of Tower Hamlets Council. This included responsibility for:- Publications;- Press/media (including proactive and reactive social media);- Web;- Brand guardian;- Internal communications (including culture change work);- Stakeholder communications;- Supporting the work of the organisation's Board, working closely with the Chair;- Internal governance.

Supported the Mayor and Cabinet of a busy inner-London borough, including through:- Overseeing responses to correspondence, including casework;- Advising on communication issues;- Writing speeches;- Providing briefings for meetings, including Cabinet meetings and meetings of Full Council;
