Under direction, takes the lead over Registered Environmental Health Specialists and Registered Environmental Health Specialist trainees; performs sanitary inspection work involving the enforcement of relevant sanitary, environmental, and public health laws and rules within the concerned jurisdiction; conducts inspections, investigations, and educational outreach activities; performs other related duties as required and/or necessary.

A Registered Environmental Health Specialist administers environmental and health programs for both public and private agencies and organizations in food protection and safety, water protection, air quality, noise, industrial and land pollution, sewage disposal, hazardous and toxic substances, solid waste management, and institutional health. In general, a Registered Environmental Health Specialist is employed by a local health agency, e.g., an individual municipal local health agency, a regional health commission, or a county health department. Alternative, some individuals are employed by the Food and Drug Administration, the US Department of Agriculture, or private consulting companies, or private food concerns.

The Assistant to the Mayor provides a wide variety of professional support to the Mayor. In addition, this position represents the Mayor at meetings when required and appropriate. The position provides extensive professional assistance, project management, and recommendations on City issues and performs highly responsible administrative work covering a broad range of municipal activities. This is a professional position requiring extensive experience and exceptional analytical and communication skills.

Job Description:1) Develops and coordinates grant-funded programs for agencies, institutions, local government, or units of local government, such as school systems or metropolitan police departments: Reviews literature dealing with funds available through grants from governmental agencies and private foundations to determine feasibility of developing programs to supplement local annual budget allocations.2) Discusses program requirements and sources of funds available with administrative personnel.3) Confers with personnel affected by proposed program to develop program goals and objectives, outline how funds are to be used, and explain procedures necessary to obtain funding.4) Works with fiscal officer in preparing narrative justification for purchase of new equipment and other budgetary expenditures.5) Submits proposal to officials for approval.6) Writes grant application, according to format required, and submits application to funding agency or foundation.7) Meets with representatives of funding sources to work out final details of proposal.8) Directs and coordinates evaluation and monitoring of grant-funded programs, or writes specifications for evaluation or monitoring of program by outside agency.9) Assists department personnel in writing periodic reports to comply with grant requirements.10) Maintains master files on grants.11) Monitors paperwork connected with grant-funded programs.
