I am the lead technical expert for hydrometry and telemetry within Ricardo Energy and Environment. Over the last three years I have built, trained, and established a team of hydrometrists that have delivered into various national Strategic Resource Options (SROs) and WINEP projects. My role has consisted of a large range of tasks, including project management, designing new hydrometric and water quality installations, flow monitoring, procurement of equipment, dealing with suppliers and internal staff training. Since I have been at Ricardo, I have built a telemetry platform with the help of our data science team, justified and fully funded the upgrade of our hydrometry equipment to Sontec RS5 ADCPs through various projects and undertaken research into dilution gaugings. I have also worked closely with Ricardo's ecology and water resource teams to identify new and innovative ways to use ADCP data for projects including bathymetry surveys, velocity profiling and habitat mapping. In my role as a team leader, I have been responsible for recruitment, mentoring, personal development plans and defining team members goals and objectives.

Joining a start up company on day 1 of trading has taught me a great deal about business. As part of the management team in this role I have worked on product design and installation, company direction and cost cutting, sales and marketing, and managing a team. I have dedicated my time at this company to its growth and trying to improve its internal and external procedures. While at this role I have also delivered fantastic results on the front line by managing an onsite team of installers. I have learnt some great qualities about my work attitude including excellent problem solving skills, perseverance and a sense of pride in my work. I have also had great feedback from my team who I feel I have lead by example.

I dealt with contracts for hydrometric analysis, installations and monitoring programmes across southeast England. This includes work winning, preparation of bids, project management and the organisation of the field and data reporting staff. In the role it was important to work hard to understand client needs and provide turnkey solutions that comply with international standards for environmental monitoring.

Executing site installations, carrying out on-going maintenance as well as writing monthly data research reports on a wide range of projects including; river flows, water levels, water quality and weather stations. I also undertake water quality sensor calibrations and flow gaugings using ADCP on a daily basis.

As a hydrologist, I managed the hydrometric network and assets of the Environment Agency across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Borehole monitoring, weirs, gaugeboards, velocity and water level sensors were key methods used. I also performed flow gauging using ADCP’s and current meters.
