Former senior partner in King & Wood Mallesons competition and regulatory team in Melbourne. Originally senior legal advisor to the ACCC for several years. After joining private practice in 1998, acted in merger and joint venture approvals, ACCC investigations and litigation, and infrastructure access disputes. Extensive expertise in large-scale litigation, including representing BHP in the landmark Pilbara infrastructure access proceedings in the Competition Tribunal, Federal Court and High Court. Extensive experience in merger and joint venture approvals in a variety of industries, including acting for the Western Australian Government in the Verve/Synergy power corporation remerger and Telstra in the proposed acquisition of Adam Internet. Other experience includes immunity applications and conduct investigations and litigation, and leading Flight Centre's defence of the ACCC’s test case on principal/agent price agreements. During 2011/2012 was Chairman of the Competition & Consumer Committee of the Law Council of Australia and played a leading role in the Committee’s consultations with the ACCC and Federal Government about policy and enforcement matters. Listed for several years as a leading competition and litigation lawyer in Chambers Global and Best Lawyers and International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists. Executive Committee member of the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia 2017 - 2018.
