Throughout my time as a Supervisor, I had to follow and conduct planned, preventative maintenance schedules in strict time-constrained periods. These procedures would include hydraulic, rotary machinery, pneumatic High/Low-pressure systems, electrical, and mechanical. My responsibilities in these procedures are to brief and prepare different compartments on the submarine, including any external contractors. Ensure there was no conflict in doing the task. I’m also responsible for ensuring all safe systems of work practices are met. This would include risk assessments, Tag-out/LOTO, Permit to work, and COSHH where all, are prepared before the start of the procedure. It is expected of me to also ensure all equipment is mustered and if anything was not available I was to purchase this through our store chain. I am responsible for the conduct and quality assurance of the work.It is expected of me to diagnose any faults in the system, make it safe, and report to my superiors. In my brief to superiors, I use the acronym “PERT” Problem, Effect, Response, and Time.Problem: What the issue isEffect: What is the defect affecting the system externallyResponse: What are actions to repair the defectTime: When the next brief is or the defect repairedIn my line of work, I must rectify defects as quickly as possible. This is to ensure the missile system is working at all times. When conducting these planned and corrective procedures I need to use drawings and schematics. In this position as the system expert, I am expected to use all documentation to aid me in all aspects of my job. Another responsibility in this role is to record all data and information for the nuclear weapon system. We use many methods of data recording with electronic work logs and data sheets/forms.
  • Royal Navy
    Leading Weapon Engineer (Supervisor)
    Royal Navy Aug 2021 - Feb 2023
    Plymouth, England, United Kingdom
Worked at HMS Devenport as a Leading Engineering Technician. Working on a submarine in refit. My main role is to maintain quality control and safety. With personnel in the Navy and various contractors. While training personnel from different roles, on submarine and construction site rules and regulations, and training on ships systems.During this time, I learned a lot from my time in this role. From communicating with different levels of competence, from non-engineering personnel to highly experienced personnel. This was a great learning curve. A skill that I would enjoy continuing to develop in my future employment.
  • Royal Navy
    Navigation Engineering Technician
    Royal Navy May 2012 - Nov 2019
    Faslane, Scotland, United Kingdom
This was the start of my career in the Royal Navy, as Engineering Technician for the Nuclear Trident system in the Navigation section. This period was the start of my career and development, in my profession and leader in the Royal Navy. When I joined the Royal Navy, I was a shy adult, who struggled to communicate with personnel and present presentations to all personnel. But through this period, I challenged myself and managed to develop my effective style of giving presentations and communicating with personnel. These roles included my core job, which was to complete basic maintenance periods and “CASD Nuclear Submarines Patrol”. I completed this cycle three times, which also included record-breaking patrol lengths. Another part of the submarine and the Nuclear weapon system cycle. Is a Nuclear Weapon offload in Kings Bay USA. That was a challenging evolution, the first time working in those climate conditions. The complexity and supervision of the evolution was also very intense. This was due to the nature of the Safety and security of the nuclear weapon system. To ensure that we achieved all requirements, from data recording and procedural compliance. That allowed for use to achieve a successful missile offload ahead of schedule.I was also part of the team who decommissioned the submarine ready for its refit. This was a busy period in a submarine cycle because I was part of the team who had to ensure all documentation and equipment was removed from the submarine, and stored correctly. This would also include sensitive information that needed to be handled following sensitive data requirement procedures.Through the submarines life cycle from patrol, offload and decommission, I had many responsibilities through these busy periods that gave me a much broader and in depth understanding of being a Submariner and a Weapon Engineer.
