I am a trial lawyer with extensive experience in commercial, class action, ERISA, intellectual property, director and officer, complex insurance coverage and insurance bad faith litigation. I have represented parties in federal and state courts across the country, as well as in arbitrations and in foreign jurisdictions. I have tried a range of cases to verdict and have extensive appellate experience in both state and federal courts. In the area of ERISA, I have litigated a wide range of denial of benefit, breach of fiduciary duty, executive compensation and class action cases in state courts, federal district courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. I also counsel clients on employment law, ERISA compliance and benefit plan design issues. I have led teams of lawyers charged with drafting plan documents, with assisting clients in complying with ERISA, and with revising employers’ benefit programs. I was named one of the best 15 ERISA lawyers in the country in 2015 by the National Association of Plan Advisors. I have published a number of articles on a variety of complex topics in ERISA litigation, and am a frequent speaker on ERISA litigation issues. I have spoken before a variety of trade groups, national organizations, bar associations and corporate groups, including AIG, ASPPA, the Massachusetts Bar, the American Conference Institute and the New England Employee Benefits Council. I have also been quoted in a wide range of publications on subjects ranging from ERISA disputes, to intellectual property litigation, to insurance law, including InsideCounsel magazine, Business Insurance, the National Law Journal, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, LawyersUSA and the BNA Pension and Benefits Reporter. I counseled plan sponsors, plan administrators, ERISA plan service providers and plan participants with regard to ERISA governed plans, and litigated a broad range of ERISA, employment, commercial, director and officer, and insurance disputes. My litigation practice included trial, appellate and motion practice before a number of state trial courts, federal district courts, state and federal appeals courts, and administrative agencies.

I led a complex litigation team consisting of several partners and associates that focused on class action, ERISA breach of fiduciary duty, ERISA denial of benefit, ESOP, complex insurance coverage, director and officer liability, patent infringement, software dispute and copyright infringement litigation. My work in one complex class action case was described by a senior federal district court judge as “a very good job in all aspects.” I tried patent infringement, product liability, director and officer liability, consumer protection, insurance bad faith, reinsurance and commercial insurance coverage cases to verdict in state courts, federal court and commercial arbitrations. I also prevailed on multiple motions for preliminary injunctions seeking to halt the distribution of software developed by one of my clients. In addition, for one of my tech clients, I represented the founder in the sale of the company, after having represented the company on a number of issues, including in litigation, since the company’s founding.
