A non-profit advocacy service agency of, for, by and with deaf and hard-of-hearing people. I have been serving as a board of director for 20 years, more or less.

One of co-founders of this organization to serve deaf and hard-of-hearing senior community of Coachella Valley including non-seniors for advocacy, housing, recreation and social purposes as well as fund raising.

I was the executive director for Self Actualization Institute for the Deaf, Inc. (S.A.I.D.) originally based in Hollywood, CA, and served on its board for seven years until hired by the same board to lead its organization. New board members from the deaf community leaders such as the Los Angeles Club for the Deaf (LACD) led by Lillian Skinner, President, of San Fernando Valley areas that I recruited brought in more fund raising dollars which we"re very proud and fortunate to have helped to maintain its level of operations after United Way of Los Angeles's had severe fiscal management troubles. That resulted in a major reductions in non-restrictive fundings by no less than 50% across most deserving non-profit organizations. After several years leading S.A.I.D. and severely reduced State funding through the California Department of Social Services's (DSS) contracts for services became difficult to continue, Westview Services, Inc. of Orange Co. came into the picture and took over with DSS, with the S.A.I.D. board's blessings. S.A.I.D. changed its name to W.I.D.E. (Westview Integrated Deaf Employment). The Westview board of directors eventually asked me to join their board for the next seven years as their counterpart consultant on its voting board.

Board member for 7 years before becoming the executive director in employment placement development and licensed administrator to a board and care facility. S.A.I.D. was absorbed by Westview Services in Anaheim, CA and served on its board for seven years.

242 House on Park Avenue was a result of a lack of deaf adults with various developmental disabilities seeking qualified board and care housing and at least part time or sheltered workshop employment. Among the original co-founders were Mr. Romer Good, the uncle to one of the young men, whose father, Mr. McConnell with hopes for his son's safe future served closely with Mr. Good on the development of its Advisory Group. Once they found a six bedroom facility for six beds and attempted to operate it until NYS forced it to comply with proper training and certifications as a board and care facility. That was when Mrs. Rosalie and Dale Rockwell, Ph. D. took great interest in that opportuntiy and invited me to join the original advisory group. The property became known as the 242 House as it resided on 242 Park Avenue in Rochester, NY. Eventually, a very large and successful developmental services corporation, Continuing Developmental Services, Inc. under Lewis and Phyllis Wolf for the metro Rochester (based in Fairport or Perinton), New York. I am currently seeking it's history and what had become of the 242 House board and care facility as well as Continuing Developmental Services, Inc. as website search keeps popping up as a "Home builder Services" at 242 Park Avenue?
