Reporting to the President, leads, guides, and directs operations and facility development at Gaston’s Kimbrell campus. Equipment design and procurement for the Fiber Innovation Center, and product development and innovation for the Textile Technology and Fiber Innovation Centers. Position also collaborates with the Chief Operating Officer to assist with projects and activities associated with facilities planning and development for the College. Leads team of 12 technicians in support of education and industry research.

Responsible for managing 750,000 sq ft of existing space, overseeing new construction and up fit projects, ensuring research and academic continuity, liaising with college and university administration and campus architects and construction management

• Management of operational and technical initiatives for fledgling startup company developing manufacturing processes and markets for specialized man-made fibers.

•Direct report, management and organizational development of a team of 15+ engineers, process technicians and skilled maintenance personnel with a primary focus on health, safety and continuous improvement, employing service management, coaching management and appreciative feedback style with a goal of self-motivated and self-directed, but cohesive, team members.•Crisis management using fact based decision making to reduce risk and achieve the best possible outcome for all stakeholders.•The management of 10+ Million dollars of operational and research expenditures annually for a 40,000+ square foot pilot industrial research facility.•Hands on maintenance and the management of maintaining high speed industrial equipment with complex electromechanical pilot production machinery, with drive systems up to 400 HP and total power consumption of 1.5 megawatts maximizing uptime of 24/7 pilot production facility, including defining and scheduling preventative maintenance.•Specification and procurement of industrial equipment with values ranging up to 10 million dollars and managing contractors during installation and commissioning, ensuring all specifications are met for acceptance.•Teamed with architects and construction management to design and construct new facilities for housing industrial equipment, labs and offices, providing specifications and program requirements for industrial facilities up to 30,000 Ft2.•Design, schematic development and fabrication of industrial processing equipment both mechanical and electrical, including PLC/HMI programming, industrial networking and VFD integration.•The management of federally and privately funded complex research and development projects, developing new processes and products for nonwoven and fiber industry including: design of experiments, trial/experiment execution, material analysis and data analysis, including the writing of required reports and proposals.•Six Sigma black belt certification
