A very broad and commercial Group CFO / Investor Director / General Management role across a wide range of business interests, whilst all the time looking after the interests of an extremely busy, high profile entrepreneur and celebrity with a strong public profile.When I joined there were just two newly established telecoms businesses and my role was very hands-on alongside Peter in growing these. The investment portfolio also expanded rapidly through acquisitions and start-ups, and even further after Peter joined the panel of Dragons Den. Many of the businesses were in telecoms and technology but they also extended into other sectors including leisure, retail and television production. For many years we operated the larger businesses as owner / operators rather than simply investors and I worked closely alongside management teams on a day-to-day basis to drive growth and provide support / challenge across all aspects of each business. I had close relationships with the CEO’s, and the Finance Manager or Controller in each entity reported directly to me.In addition to the ‘day job’, a major aspect of my role was leading numerous acquisitions, disposals and various forms of financings. In 2017 I chose to step down, although I remain a Trustee of the Peter Jones Foundation. Companies House shows me as having held nearly 100 board appointments. These include Executive CFO, Non-Executive and Investor Director roles but not the advisory roles I also performed across numerous Dragons Den investments. In no particular order, a few of the businesses that I was on the Board of included: Peter Jones Investment Group, Data Select, Wireless Logic, Phones International Group, Generation Telecom, Red Letter Days, PJ Media, Jessops, Expansys Group Plc, Phones International, Brandpath, Peter Jones TV, Hungry Bear Media, & The Peter Jones Foundation.

A £60 million turnover group specialising in the wholesale import, distribution & processing of meat & related meat products. I joined Whitchurch having managed the audit for a number of years and was responsible for financial reporting & controls across the group, in addition to the annual audit and preparation of the Plc accounts. I was also involved in numerous acquisitions and disposals.During late 1998 & 1999 I took the lead finance role in the MBO and subsequent sale of the operating businesses of the group.

Hunter Jones was a two partner Chartered Accountants practice based in Westminster and I became responsible for the audit and preparation of various company accounts. Clients ranged from small one-man traders through to multinational & listed businesses. Working and training at such a small firm gave a broad insight into business generally and a fantastic understanding of accounting that I would not have achieved at a much larger firm or working in-house. This grounding has stood me in good stead throughout my career as I have always been able to understand & interpret accounts quickly and spot where financial problems may be building within a business.
