Our Mission at First Step Communities (FirstStep) is to create transitional supportive housing communities where people experiencing homelessness can live in safety and dignity, while receiving the services they require to facilitate their individual efforts in breaking their personal cycle of homelessness by taking the first-step out of homelessness and towards permanent housing and self-sufficiency. Our communities will provide shelter, medical care, services, and renewed self-esteem.

I teach cultural anthropology courses to a very diverse student population at LRCCD campuses. My courses look at the foundation of the cultural anthropological perspectives including providing holistic, comparative, and cross cultural perspectives with a strong emphasis on cultural diversity and cultural relativism.

I was engaged in directing the evolution of Safe Ground Sacramento from a grassroots homeless advocacy organization into a non-profit capable of developing and operating a unique model housing and services program. Beyond the normal executive director operational responsibilities, my strategies include developing and implementing capital and operational fundraising programs, creating the strategic organizational planning efforts, and building the necessary relationships and coordinated strategies with city and county elected officials to effectively advocate for support of a first-step homeless community site selection and entitlement to develop. My activities include working with the board of directors, local policy makers, and elected officials, as well as coordinating the efforts of a professional volunteer staff, university interns and homeless volunteers. My research and engagements allowed me to help clients with program, technical and project training and implementations, operational and process analysis, operational strategy development, technology solution comparisons, marketing strategies, and market segment analysis. My client list has included Fortune 1000 clients, vendors and service bureaus.

I was responsible for directing the US Operations including administrative headquarters, national service, IT, sales and marketing departments, as well as, the strategic direction of the company. I designed, directed and implemented the reengineering of Pacific Bell operations into an automated facility. I successfully constructed and championed a business case for building a new 165,000 square foot facility that, when implemented saved several hundred union positions which would have been outsourced without the new automated facility.
