The Westway Trust manages 23 acres of land under the Westway in North Kensington. It uses the proceeds from the estate to provide services and support to local community groups and charitable organisations. My role is to provide management accounting information to the organisation and manage its IT services, and to support the Director of Resources with statutory accounting and other matters as needed. The Director of Resources left the organisation in July 2020 and was not replaced, leading to my elevation to be the main source of financial information and management reporting for both Management and the Trustees. Aylesbury

My primary role was to provide financial and commercial support to each subsidiary of the Group as necessary, produce and review the consolidated management accounts for the Group and support the preparation of management reporting to the senior team and shareholders. This included the production of management accounts for both Head Office and one trading entity each month. I also prepared the Statutory Accounts for several trading and non-trading entities and the Sterling Industries Pension Scheme and managed the UK audit for the Group. I managed the UK banking and insurance provision for the Group and ensured compliance with new regulations that applied to the UK group such as ESOS and the Modern Slavery Act.When required I supported the CEO and Group FD in appraising possible acquisitions and planned for their integration into the Group and also assisted with taxation and treasury matters. Over the last year of my time here I was appointed as Secretary to the Company pension scheme and liaised with lawyers to ensure the scheme was GDPR compliant and then to close the scheme to future accrual. Following a decision to restructure the business, I managed the closure of the head office function and made arrangements for a smooth transfer of the remaining accounting and UK banking and insurance matters to our shareholder, prior to leaving the business in December 2018.

I provided analysis and cost assurance reporting for ongoing capital projects with values from £5m - £60m.During my time in post I improved the financial reporting provided to the Project Managers leading the developments and automated several reports used to provide information to the centralised Capital Delivery division, resulting in a saving 1-2 days of man time each month.

I worked across the Management, Sales and Marketing and Operational aspects of the business in order to provide Board members and internal stakeholders with accurate, comprehensible and useful financial and commercial information and analysis.During my time in this position I completed one full financial due diligence and assisted on a second by evaluating the historic and forecast financial performance of the target business. Post acquisition work involved standardising the financial reporting across the businesses and compiling consolidated management accounts and forecasts.
