Flint engineering solutions is a marine based engineering company. I cover all aspects of boat/ships maintenance including main engine strip down and rebuilds, generator removal and replacement, electronics installation, fault diagnosis, hydraulics installation and general sterngear overhauling. I have 20 years experience of working on a large range of low, medium and high speed diesel engines used for main propulsion, generators, thrusters and pumps. Present projects include maintenance and rebuilds for SERCO in Devonport dockyard, complete strip out and replacement of electrical systems on the Cattewater commissions pilot vessel 'Maker', general maintenance of the Marine Biological Association vessel 'Sepia', general maintenance and overhauling of the Mount Batten ferries and general maintenance and repair of a large number of leisure vessels in and around the Plymouth area. I am also on a freelance contract with Thales UK as a skipper engineer linked to the MMCM project. Through this role I have recently been involved with the REPMUS project in Portugal supporting Optics 11 and their towed array system.

General duties including operation of 4 point anchor system, deck crane, loading and unloading of cargos on board a 27M landing craft. As engineer I was responsible for all on board maintenance of the Daewoo main engines, twin generators, hydraulic crane and bowthruster, electrics, heating systems and electronics.

Responsible for diagnosing faults and rectifying on a vast range of marine engines both inboard and outboard, valve overhauling, pipework replacement and hydraulics. I was also responsible for engine strip down and rebuild on several Serco vessels in Devonport dockyard including main engines, generators and pump engines.

Pre construction UXB surveys. Using side scan sonar, magnetometer, sub bottom profiler. As the skipper/engineer I was responsible for the maintenance of the triple MTU V12 main engines, generators, heating systems and electrics.

Mainly multibeam surveys for MMT Hydrographic on the MCA chart updates. we covered the Moray firth, Sound of jura, Tiree and Coll,north of Skye, south of Islay.we also carried out multibeam surveys for Emu Fugro around Bangor Northern Island, carmarthen bay and south of shoreham. Also for Emu Fugro we carried out benthic surveys on the aggregate dredging areas south of Shoreham. As the skipper/engineer I was also responsible for all on board maintenance and repairs to both 27m survey vessels. Main engines were a stork and bw alpha 2 stroke , twin generators, all pipework, hydraulics, valves, heating systems and electronics.

Seeker was a twin screw Lochin 38 coded for 12+2. Primarily I ran as a dive charter boat from Plymouth, falmouth and Mevagissey. I specialised in mixed gas deep wreck diving. As the owner/skipper I also replaced the old iveco srm25 engines with Perkins 265ti's, making up all new skin fittings, engine beds, electrics and exhaust systems. I also carried out general maintenance on several other Plymouth based dive charters boats.,

I was the second skipper on board the Falcon Spirit a 15M aluminium catamaran. we carried out all the practical work for ocean science, hydrography, marine biology and rov use. I was also responsible for the maintenance of the twin Cummins QSM 8.3 main engines, beta generator, hydraulics and all associated engineroom electrics.

I was the skipper engineer on board the Loyal Watcher a 24M ex navy fleet tender. I ran live aboard trips from Plymouth to Norway, Denmark, France, Ireland, Gibraltar,Malta and Greece. We ran diving expeditions to the Lusitania, Britanic, Jutland and were the first people to go to the Carpathia. As the skipper /engineer I was responsible for all on board maintenance of the Mirrlees Blackstone main engine, all generators, all pumps, valves, pipework, electrics, electronics and hydraulics.
