For nearly four years I have been studying history with the aim of entering work in a field which I am both passionate and knowledgeable about. For the first three years I studied history at the University of Wolverhampton, graduating with a 2:1 (Hons) degree. I am currently in the final stages of my MA in Modern British Studies at the University of Birmingham. As a result of my studies I have developed a keener ability to understand, and interpret a wide range of sources. Independence is a skill that I have developed at university, both in terms of the ability to work independently, but also in terms of an intellectual independence. I can work in an organised way, meeting deadlines, despite pressure or conflicting deadlines as I am an organised individual, something which I demonstrated while running a small society at university. I am fully computer literate, having gained a Merit grade at GCSE ICT, and continuing to use computers almost daily, meaning that I have good keyboard skills, and am extremely familiar with Microsoft Office.One of the modules I have studied at university was titled 'Sites and Sources in Modern British Studies', this was an introduction to the raw materials that are available to historians, and the ways that historians can use them to understand everyday life. This module meant that I developed an ability to interpret and understand different sources, and an ability to apply different sources in useful, interesting and insightful ways. I have a keen interest in both political and cultural history, something that is reflected by my current dissertation topic, which explores the Christian responses to the politician Enoch Powell following his infamous 'Rivers of Blood' Speech. This has meant that I have delved into Britain's cultural as well as political history, and has provided me with a rich understanding of Britain in the 1960s.
