About Steve Cohn

My career has primarily been in atmospheric science (meteorology). After a short detour to health care policy and finance, I’m glad to be guiding research in transportation with a continuing emphasis on impactful results and environmental issues. I am excited to manage the Colorado Department of Transportation's Applied Research and Innovation Branch. Transportation research impacts everyone - our environment, safety, and economic security. I also lead the World Meteorological Organization Editorial Board, which oversees the WMO Guide to Meteorological Instruments and Methods of Observation (GIMO) and the Instrument and Observing Method (IOM) report series. Weather forecasts and models rely on measurements and the WMO Guide enables worldwide knowledge, quality assurance and standardization.

Prior to chairing this WMO team, I chaired the team revising the WMO International Cloud Atlas, Manual on the Observation of Clouds and other Meteors.
