About Stephen Bedford

I have worked for the Met Office since 1986 in IT orientated roles. During the first few months I wrote a syntax sensitive editor for assembly language, created a primitive network between my manager’s and my PC which allowed file transfer and messaging and worked on a weather display for the foyer of the Met Office main building.Since then I have worked on ATD lightning detection system, NAMODEL (the nuclear accident model created after Chernobyl), testing of various satellite instruments principally AMSU-B and MHS, PC infrastructure, rationalisation of quality control and quality evaluation procedures for observations, defence tactical decision aids and systems that process satellite data.I have worked with organisations such as NASA (from whom I received a letter of commendation) and NATO (to whom I gave a few presentations at their headquarters in Brussels).I have managed various computer systems including VAX/VMS, Windows NT (I set up the first Windows Domain In the Met Office), HP-UX (the first used by the office).
