I was a staff attorney in the Children and Families Practice Group, litigating and advocating for children with serious endangerment issues and for survivors of domestic violence. My work also included helping HIV positive individuals with family law matters and orders of protection. I also helped Legal Aid Chicago change its priorities to work with transgender individuals needing assistance with name changes in Cook County.

I supervised five staff attorneys and three support staff at the Department of Child Services. My supervising territory spanned five counties in Indiana. I also performed the function of staff attorney when one of my attorneys was out. I met with juvenile court judges regularly and advocated for and protected the children of Indiana on a daily basis.

I advocated and litigated on behalf of children who were victims of abuse and neglect. My areas of emphasis were Child Welfare and Child Advocacy. I specialized in Children In Need of Services and Termination of Parental Rights cases.

I worked with Professor Jeanine Bell on her article, "Can't We Be Your Neighbor? Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman, and the Resistance to Blacks as Neighbors." I conducted research, wrote memos, and helped edit the final product. I also did research for Professor Steve Sanders on guardianship, custody, and other family law related issues.
