Our purpose at CUCWD is to help build a knowledgeable workforce with accessible online tools. I support this mission by creating online educational material, coordinating content for AR/VR learning environments, and developing video lectures for new courses on the EducateWorkforce website. I also manage project tasks and timelines and evaluate educational components with current best practices. Additionally, I help develop grant partnership and dissemination activities. An important part of developing a knowledgeable workforce is bringing K12, higher education, and industry stakeholders together to discuss needs and work together to solve challenges related to workforce education. I supported this through delivering workshops, presenting at professional conferences, and meeting with stakeholders to develop partnerships to address the challenges of developing a modern workforce. A major part of my job was to hire, train, and supervise student staff. Since a major goal of the lab was to increase student and faculty use, I focused particularly staff training in the basic principles of customer service such as courtesy, responding quickly, and familiarization of the digital media resources of the lab. Part of my duties involved developing and conducting STEAM focused lessons for K12 classrooms visiting the labs as well as supporting individual college students in using the assets of the lab to further their personal and academic projects. I participated in professional development conferences such the Playful Learning Summit 2015 in Greenville, SC and the STEAMing into School Readiness conference, June 2015, hosted by Clemson University’s Child Learning and Development Lab.As an Information Technologist for Clemson Online, I provided learning management system support and training in Blackboard, Canvas, iClicker, and Turnitin for faculty and students. I supported faculty in these education technologies with both group trainings as well as one-on-one sessions for those needing further assistance. I also served as course development leader in the Clemson University online course certification protocol designed to help professors to design online courses that are engaging to students, helping them get the most from their online course experience. As coach, I used the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and My Teaching Partner (MTP), developed at the CASTL research center at UVA, to coach teachers in their teaching practices and interactions. In addition, I helped write the Protocol for Assessing the Teaching of History (PATH), a history observation measure that I also used to coach the teachers. Our purpose in writing PATH is to address content areas particular to the teaching of history not addressed in other measures. An article of which I am a co-author and giving the justification for PATH called “Can You Make ‘Historiography’ Sound More Friendly?” appeared in the August 2012 edition of The History Teacher. In addition to the responsibilities above, I lead recruitment and orientation meetings with teachers and developed the content and materials of these meetings to familiarize teachers in their role in the project and focus their attention on aspects of CLASS and PATH. I also coordinated and supervised the CLASS and PATH coding for the project. This involved recruiting and training coders in both measures, maintaining reliability, and checking quality of data entry. I developed the training program for the PATH measure, selecting video examples and writing exemplar and master code descriptions. In the course of my work in this project, I have developed a number of other skills. I am a trainer of CLASS K-3 and an Observer on the Upper Elementary and Secondary versions of CLASS. I have gained experience in developing content both in measure writing as wells as training materials. I showed participants video examples and guided their discussion of their observations. I scaffolded participants as they practiced their observer skills with 20 minute video selections, modeling and guiding their discussion and corrected misconceptions. By the end of the two day training, students were prepared to take their reliability test, assessing how well they can observe a classroom using the CLASS observation tool. Show less

WORLD HISTORY TEACHERAs a World History teacher, my responsibility was to engage student’s interest to learn about the world’s civilizations and give them tools to excel in the State of Virginia’s Standards of Learning (SOL) test at the end of the year. My World History courses went far beyond the minimum Standards set by the State of Virginia, and we explored several civilizations and cultures in great depth. As a result of going beyond the minimum requirements, my students were… Show more WORLD HISTORY TEACHERAs a World History teacher, my responsibility was to engage student’s interest to learn about the world’s civilizations and give them tools to excel in the State of Virginia’s Standards of Learning (SOL) test at the end of the year. My World History courses went far beyond the minimum Standards set by the State of Virginia, and we explored several civilizations and cultures in great depth. As a result of going beyond the minimum requirements, my students were outstanding in their performance on the SOL test, passing at a rate of 96% with several perfect scores and a majority of pass advances. I also worked with my colleagues to develop curriculum that closely aligned with, but was not limited to, the SOL standards for World History I and II and served as a Faculty Study Group leader in which I presented professional development topics on differentiation that the group discussed and then practiced.
