    Together with my co-founder Alex Allen, Next Chapter Books CIC was our dream to establish a community bookshop in South Bristol. More than just a bookshop, we wanted it to be a community space where stories are shared, people are inspired and connections are made and strengthened. It would have been a community business investing in tackling local needs. We were successful in raising £65k in start-up funds, and were poised to take on a lease when Covid hit. The disruptions of the pandemic put an end to this idea, for now.

Included line management of two Community Engagement Officers and responsibility for budgets linked to tenant capacity building and area initiatives• Led the Council’s £195k ‘Stronger Neighbourhoods’ initiative. A grant programme focused on the most deprived areas of Hounslow which built the capacity of local voluntary organisations to support resident-led activities and be better able to respond to local need• Council-lead on consortium responsible for securing c.£1million Arts Council funding to deliver the ‘Creative People & Places’ programme. This project uses community development to deliver a step-change in participation in the arts• Managed LBH’s relationship with groups in priority areas of Hounslow. Included support for Hounslow’s resident-led Big Local programme (a £1million externally-funded project)• Designed the outcomes-based service specifications for the c.£1million per year ’Thriving Communities’ commissioning programme.
