Principal researcher within the Fair Transition Unit at IPPR focusing on transport decarbonisation and transport inequality. Wider research interests include securing a just transition to net zero, clean air, public involvement in climate policy and community leadership of place-based action.Co-lead for participative research at IPPR, developing and using participatory methods to co-create policy solutions.

Co-author of 'Fairness and opportunity: A people-powered plan for the green transition' the final report of the Environmental Justice Commission. Supported the work of the Environmental Justice Commission to develop a positive vision and a plan to tackle the climate and nature crises by bringing about an economic transformation, building resilience and realising the substantial opportunities to address underlying economic and social inequalities.The Commission put people at the centre of its work by holding deliberative democracy events and citizens' juries to draw on the practical knowledge, experience and wisdom of people in diverse places around the UK. Alongside my job share, Becca Massey-Chase, led the the design and delivery of citizens' juries in England, Scotland and Wales.

Together with my co-founder Alex Allen, Next Chapter Books CIC was our dream to establish a community bookshop in South Bristol. More than just a bookshop, we wanted it to be a community space where stories are shared, people are inspired and connections are made and strengthened. It would have been a community business investing in tackling local needs. We were successful in raising £65k in start-up funds, and were poised to take on a lease when Covid hit. The disruptions of the pandemic put an end to this idea, for now.

Led on a new UK-wide strategy that sets out how to achieve ‘liveable cities and towns for everyone’ in the next five years — creating places that connect us to each other and what we need, where everyone can thrive without needing a car. Established a theory of change and related impact framework to guide and evaluate all of the organisation’s delivery, research, policy and advocacy.

The Research & Monitoring Unit provides evidence on walking and cycling that is transparent and authoritative, and which influences and shapes policy, practice and behaviour. It is a centre of excellence for walking and cycling monitoring, evaluation and research. I led the team of over 50 specialists based across offices in Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London and Newcastle. Their expertise covers a range of disciplines – evaluation, monitoring and data collection, appraisal, data analysis and modelling, research and GIS.The team's portfolio covers everything from small scale monitoring of regional projects through to evaluation of complex nationwide programmes with international significance. They conduct research of strategic importance to Sustrans – covering diverse themes such as transport poverty, air quality, physical activity, gender inequality, health and safety.My role involved leadership of every aspect of strategic and operational management, research design, business development, quality assurance, team wellbeing and personal development, internal and external relationship management and communications.

Led the design and delivery of community development initiatives and deputy for Head of Community Partnerships Unit.• Led tenant engagement and restructured the service to be focused on delivering partnership projects and supporting effective tenant-led activities that improved local quality of life. Included line management of two Community Engagement Officers and responsibility for budgets linked to tenant capacity building and area initiatives• Led the Council’s £195k ‘Stronger Neighbourhoods’ initiative. A grant programme focused on the most deprived areas of Hounslow which built the capacity of local voluntary organisations to support resident-led activities and be better able to respond to local need• Council-lead on consortium responsible for securing c.£1million Arts Council funding to deliver the ‘Creative People & Places’ programme. This project uses community development to deliver a step-change in participation in the arts• Managed LBH’s relationship with groups in priority areas of Hounslow. Included support for Hounslow’s resident-led Big Local programme (a £1million externally-funded project)• Designed the outcomes-based service specifications for the c.£1million per year ’Thriving Communities’ commissioning programme. Services covered by this programme include: volunteering infrastructure, VCS capacity building, arts and civic pride and advice (disability, BAME, legal and general)• Led the establishment of a new Community Resource Centre in Hounslow town centre. Included being the client for a c.£2million construction and refurbishment project, negotiation of lease terms and appointment of the management company• Budget manager for the Community Partnerships Unit with responsibility for monitoring and reporting on c.£2.6m budget

Led the council’s voluntary and community sector (VCS) partnership programme within the Community Partnerships Unit - delivering a strategic approach to building the capacity and sustainability of the voluntary sector in Hounslow.• LBH's lead for engagement with the local VCS including the main point of contact for Hounslow Community Network - attending all HCN Executive and General meetings to provide information on LBH initiatives and answer questions on council priorities• Designed and launched the successful VCS Training Bursary - developing local capacity of VCS staff & volunteers as well as providing support for quality accreditation• Organised and hosted the VCS Funders Fair and built strong links with national / regional funders• Designed and launched the Welfare Reform Grant Fund and supported partnership working between the two successful VCS providers delivering 'Made of Money' and employment training to BAME and/or residents with disabilities • Developed the External Funding Action Plan in partnership with the VCS Support Service to ensure joined up thinking on bids aiming to bring money into the borough• Designed, ran and analysed the Hounslow VCS Survey - providing an insight into the local voluntary sector and setting benchmarks for subsequent evaluations of LBH programmes and for understanding the impact of national policy changes• Managed LBH's communications with the local voluntary sector through regular Evolve newsletters• Supported Hounslow's successful Advice Services Transition Fund bid – bringing in circa £288k to local advice providers over 2 years• Supported the development of the LBH 13/14 Community and Innovation Grant programmes (including the launch of the new ‘Community Youth Fund’) to build stronger links with strategic council priorities. Assessed applications against all grant schemes and involved in compiling 'Officer recommendations' for funded groups

CSV are a national charity whose mission is to enable people to take an active role in their communities. The Young Hackney Volunteering Project supported young people to find volunteering opportunities in the local area• Developed new performance management systems and updated data protection procedures• Provided line management and strategic support to small team of staff and full-time volunteers• Built new partnerships with community groups and managed existing relationship with Young Hackney (the Council's Youth Service and the core funder of the project)

Envision are a national education charity that provide young people with opportunities to make a difference• Project managed Transport for London’s Youth Transport Ambassador programme • Designed, delivered and evaluated the Youth Transport Ambassador pilot project across five schools in London. Developed programme recommendations for the pan-London roll-out based on the pilot process. The project is now working with more than 130 schools and is considered a model for best practice in engaging secondary school students in transport issues.• Managed stakeholder relationships within TfL and across three London boroughs • Additional Envision duties included line management, partnership development and wider programme support

LeapCR was social software for nonprofits to advertise and manage events and volunteering activities to a large pool of employee volunteers.• Managed outreach to charities and other nonprofit organisations nationwide: including developing a new outreach strategy, producing marketing materials, researching innovative organisations to work with and proactive recruitment of new partners• Developed new system for the nonprofit team to allow the easy management of over 700 nonprofit relationships using Salesforce CRM

YouthNet, guides and supports young people, enabling them to make educated life choices, participate in society and achieve their ambitions• Managed new partner recruitment for Do-it, the National Volunteering Database, with specific focus on projects inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games • Built strategic relationships across national bodies particularly within the arts, environment and sport (e.g. Sport England, Voluntary Arts Network, Environmental Volunteering Partnership)

Izwe was a social enterprise dedicated to connecting the public with decision making• Founding member of Izwe. Led on research and development for core programme, management of paid internship programme and establishing new office• Project managed website development across UK and France-based teams. Included line and task management of UK team, website design, functionality specifications and copy-writing• Developed extensive and expert knowledge of social media and online communications. Co-authored ‘Social Media in Empowerment’ for a local government audience. Presented and facilitated at several conferences in the UK

Envision are a national education charity that provide young people with opportunities to make a difference• Managed nine school teams across London with up to twenty young people, aged 16-19, and two adult volunteers in each. Included evaluation and monitoring, teambuilding, remote and face-to-face support, skills building, awareness raising and ability to build rapport with diverse groups of young people• Designed and facilitated numerous active citizenship workshops on social and environmental issues. Included producing a portfolio of creative advocacy workshops and educational resources commissioned by DCSF
