These research projects undertake primary and secondary research to develop policy and programmatic recommendations aimed at improving global health, food security, and household resilience. Duties include: Developing research and survey design tools; supervising diverse teams of researchers; creating monitoring and evaluation systems; advising decision makers on program development; providing technical training for country-based and international staff; performing market value and supply chain analysis; developing and facilitating large presentations for information dissemination; creating thematic maps and geo-spatial mapping, writing research proposals to funders; and authoring technical reports. Modified analytical framework and assessment tools to analyze commodity and labor markets in relation to livelihood systems. Identified preconditions for project planning, assessed project viability, calculated outcome scenarios, identified monitoring indicators and advised program design and targetingUSAID Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET). Washington, D.C. Supported the home office technical team to manage the livelihoods/food security analytic framework, provide guidance to field offices and coordinate field activities. Co-facilitated capacity building activities in Ethiopia, Nicaragua and Honduras. Developed training tools, guidance materials, and technical reports.

Provides technical guidance on the inclusion and use of livelihood information in food security monitoring, assessments, and analysis, including outcome analysis, scenario building and integrated food security phase classification (IPC). Oversees the development or updating of livelihood context documents (zone maps and descriptions or profiles) for each FEWS NET country. Develops and implements plans to build the capacity of FEWS NET technical staff to use livelihood information in analysis and to conduct assessments and data collection using a livelihood-based approach
