Completing a successful transition to BIM has required much planning and a completely different approach to project design and management within the RPS NI offices. It has required the development of processes that support the coordination of all parties involved. Choice of project team members, design and collaboration platforms, in addition to new project delivery methods, become critical to managing an efficient and profitable building project. The adoption of BIM initially raised more questions for the project management teams than it provided answers for from the pre-BIM workflows. Many assumed that shifting to a 3D design program was just a software change. The assumption was that BIM would fit within or piggy-back existing workflows that have been standard practice for decades. Building Information Modelling isn’t just a program nor is it simply a 3D model. It is a database that contains not only the model elements but the vast amounts of information that makes up the project.Given this and anticipating the industry wide take up of BIM, RPS invested in training and modelling software years in advance and since 2007 has built up an enviable bank of project experience and in this time we have successfully delivered a number of projects where BIM has been an integral part of the design process and the production of information.RPS has integrated a BIM philosophy into their design ethos, producing quality designs that can be monitored, recorded and issued. RPS clients benefit from the knowledge that they have the latest design technology implemented by fully trained, qualified and experienced staff producing accurate and tangible designs to visualise their end goal.
